After a painting by Van Gogh
Oh, thank you, this made me breathe deeply. Especially because I am at the moment among sun, mountains, cicadas and herbs in the south of Croatia!
Oh that sounds lovely, Zogorka. I didn't know that there were cicadas in Europe. Enjoy your mountains!
Lovely,
Thank you
Thank you, Robert.
Reminds me of Hopkins, "My heart rears wings, bold and bolder/ and hurls for him, O half hurls earth for him, off under his feet."
Beautiful, thank you!
Oh thank you! That's a Hopkins I haven't read before. And I'm quite flattered that you were put in mind of Hopkins.
Haha yes I would love to sound like Hopkins! ❤️ The poem is "Hurrahing in Harvest," one of his most gorgeous nature sonnets. Well worth looking up!
Lovely poem Melanie.
Lovely poem and thanks for sharing the painting! I am not familiar with that one and I really like how Van Gogh captured the movement of the grasses and the clouds.
Yes, it's the sense of movement that really draws me in this one.
I feel like I'm constantly stumbling across new Van Gogh paintings. I love being able to share them.
That opening metaphor is exquisite, Melanie!
Thank you, Elizabeth.
“Like curtains blown into a room” 🩷
Thank you, Katy.
Such a beautiful poem - and I love hearing how it came to be!
Thank you, Lisa!
