Welcome!
I’m a mom of five children, all teens and pre-teens now. I used to have a blog, The Wine Dark Sea— maybe you were a reader there. But it had fallen into a slump, not many readers, and not much engagement and it was harder and harder to dredge up enthusiasm to write there. I guess 19 years is a pretty good lifespan for a blog. It also had become too expensive to maintain. So I decided to migrate over here. New name, new focus, new life, I hope.
I used to write about all sorts of thing: homeschooling and faith and poetry and books and things I was pondering. I’m past the season of writing about homeschooling and I think this spaces going to be mostly poetry and books. My own poetry, other people’s poetry.
The title of my substack is taken from T.S. Eliot’s poem The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock and it’s a kind of manifesto for what I hope to do here: explore and delight in the ways poetry and books and art are in a great conversation, where human hearts sing to each other. Most of my posts will start off with a noticing of two (or more) things that seem to be talking to each other: a pair of poems, a painting and a poem, a couple of books. I like to write ekphrastic poems because it’s a way I can sing back to a painting.
I hope you’ll subscribe— I’m not planning to monetize this page. I hope you’ll comment. I love hear from readers. I hope you have a wonderful day. Thanks so much for stopping by.
