Sparrow
February Poetry Adventure Day 17
sparrows fluff
feathers—
unfazed
by snowevening walk— streetlights soft haloed in fog and drizzle song sparrow serenades from chimneytop minaret calling the neighborhood to contemplation
content with crumbs, sparrow hops under tables bright eyes miss nothing
incessant chirps flutter of wings glory to God for little things
the sparrows in Rome not so different from the ones at home
sing from the treetop sing, little sparrow louder than the waves washing the shore
even in winter
sparrows sing, tireless
always the same notes

They are everywhere, singing their poems and scratching them into the snow ... and Melanie is listening! 💛🌿
I have always loved sparrows - tiny and usually overlooked though they are, (and largely for that very reason).
They are not native to Australia, and therefore mostly unloved - but that’s not their fault.
They are less numerous here now than they once were. Perhaps they are losing the competition with other species….
Melanie, Your sparrow poetry is a delight !
Best Wishes - Dave :)
