This post makes me miss live oaks! Their misshapen limbs are so different from their eastern cousins' straight trunks, but such a testament to endurance!
We lost our huge Oak tree on the center of our lawn after the hurricanes last year. We had to take the tree down--and my heart was broken. I cried. The tree was why we chose this house. It was our home. So--your poems brought this all back tonight. A tree like ours is more than an oak. It was where we hide Easter eggs. It was where the kids climbed and hung. It was where the birds and animals lived. It was our great oak--which identified our home to everyone and to our family. It was the tree of our hearts.
I do the same, Melanie. It's almost impossible for me to walk past a sprinkling of acorns and not pick one up to bring home with me. :)
I love that!
Just the other day, my husband said:
"I brought you home a treat. Look at this: The Perfect Acorn! I knew you'd want it." 🤎
Oh that's the best!
I love these haiku and the photos in conversation. We have live oaks here in Northern California. They are so magical, next to redwoods.
Thank you, LeeAnn. Live oaks and redwoods... a dreamy combination!

I adore acorn caps!
